PENANG, June 15 – Penang has banned the use of polystyrene boxes and plates at all of official state functions.

State executive councillor for health, welfare, caring society and environment, Phee Boon In addition to environmental concerns, Poh said, the use of polystyrene boxes as food containers could also pose problems for health.

Recently, the state decided to make shoppers pay for plastic bags in an effort to promote reusable shopping bags and cut down on waste.

Polystyrene boxes and plates could retain water and become breeding grounds for dengue-carrying aedes mosquito, he added.

“We made the decision in the interest of the public. I hope organisations will give their support and do the same,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Phee said dengue cases were on the rise in the state, with 1,380 cases reported and 479 tested positive until June 6 this year.

There were 720 cases reported during the same period last year, with 251 tested positive, he added. There were no deaths reported.

He also said that the state government would step up its anti-dengue campaign, including carrying out inspections on premises in the state. – Bernama

Zaman aku masih skolah rendah dulu, time2 pegi memukat atau memancing kat hulu sungai biasanya suh mak bungkuskan nasik pakai daun je. Aku pun lupa lak nama daun tu apa tp mmg besar mcm daun ketapang. Pastu air bawakla dalam botol sirap Sun Valley, mesti kena bawak balik, xleh buang.

Bila dah abis makan nasik berlaukkan ikan bakar yang dipancing/jaring tu plak daun buat bungkus nasik tu bolehla buang sbb dia boleh reput hehe. Bawak balik cuma botol air yang dah kosong je. Macam ni xdela mencemar alam sekitar kan? kan? kan?
